Electrogastrogram - The
3CPM Company
3CPM Technology Application to Bladder Function
The same
technology used to study stomach and intestinal motility is now being
applied to investigate the function and potential diseases of the
urinary tract. Millions of patients currently suffer with urinary
system motility problems such as spasm, poor contraction, and
dysfunctional motion.
3CPM
Electrogastrogram technology is now being investigated as an aid to allow physicians to
achieve a better understanding of these problems, which could lead to
improved diagnosis and treatment of these conditions.
In studies that will be carried out as a collaborative effort
between the departments of Gastroenterology and Urology at Wake Forest
University Baptist Medical Center, Drs. Kenneth Koch, Anthony Atala,
Max Levine, and Debbie Smith, are utilizing EGG recording techniques
to record bladder myoelectrical activity during urodynamic testing.
The bladder is initially filled with water, and then the pressures
required for bladder emptying are recorded with a catheter. It is
during this time that potential electrical activity from the bladder
will be recorded using th 3CPM EGG device. The signal is expected to
be known as the EVsG or electrovesiculogram.
